Anushka Sharma movies you should watch

This gorgeous army child made her debut with the super hit Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi starring alongside Shah Rukh Khan. The model turned actress has been winning every one’s heart ever since that one movie with her acting and her impeccable sense of style. She is one of the highest paid Indian actresses and has been awarded with many awards and accolades for her incredible craft. Anushka Sharma recently shared her pregnancy news recently via an Intagram post and we couldn’t be happier for the actress and her cricketer husband

She is the co-founder of the production company, ‘Clean State’ along with her brother and has ever since produced incredible movies under her banner. In fact, her recent production, Patalok is one among the best Indian web series to watch. She also has her own clothing brand, ‘Nush’ and has been vocal about various societal issues like sexism in the workplace and nepotism.

All of her movies are a gem to the Bollywood industry, a few of her best works are:

7. Band Baaja Baarat

A movie from her early times, is a movie about two young people who start a wedding planning business and then eventually fall in love. What caught my eye in the movie is how unapologetic Anushka’s character is in the movie. Her character is strong enough to dream about having her own business, take it off the ground and stand by every single choice she had to make for the same.

6. Ladies vs Ricky Bahl

Another movie from her early days, is a movie about a few conned women who go up against the conman. This movie intrigues me because it has the dialogue of women being able to fight for themselves and yet be soft and this is a much necessary dialogue. Though the movie plays into the Bollywood narrative, the theme is different to have the man con women in a sexual context and not women always be the person who does that.

5. PK

A huge hit of Anushka Sharma’s, this movie has various undertones in it. It talks of religion, it talks of aliens, it talks of the hatred between Indians and Pakistanis, the business aspect of religion in India, and also talks of what or who is a good journalist. Anushka Sharma, though fictional, plays the right narrative. She showcases the qualities of a good journalist in the movie.

4. NH10

Produced in the same year as PK, this was another hit for Anushka Sharma. This movie is about the honor killing practice which is very much prevalent in India. She storms into the movie and does whatever she has to avenge her lover’s death. Sharma shows in this movie the awful truth of honor killing and also shows to the world a new narrative of female characters. She draws a new path for strong female leads.

3. Dil Dhadakne Do

This was a star-studded movie, casting Ranveer Singh, Priyanka Chopra, Shefali Shas, Anil Kapoor, Farhaan Akhtar and Anushka Sharma. Anushka Sharma played Ranveer Singh’s love interest in the movie. She was a dancer on the cruise, she took immense pride in her job even though not everyone saw it that way. She was proud of her art and of herself.

2. Phillauri

Anushka Sharma’s Phillauri did not do well in the box office neither did critics give the movie much stars, but this a feel-good movie will leave you with a smile at the end. A couple who had been separated unite, they got separated by death and the movie deals with supernatural or ghost stories in a different way. It also tackles with Indian superstitions linked to marriages. It also showcases that a woman in love can do what she wants irrespective of other people’s choices when a pre independence Indian woman has an intimate relationship with the man she loves.

1. Sui Dhaaga

This Anushka Sharma movie is about a small-town couple who change the way people view fashion. This is a heart-warming movie about resilience and also about the age-old quote “Don’t judge a book by it’s cover”. A small-town couple take the fashion world over by storm and plan to stay. This movie stands to say that a woman does not sell short just because she supports her husband and stands by him in everything and also talks that no dream is short if you dare to dream.

These are our favourite movies of Anushka Sharma. Add these to your watch list if you haven’t seen them yet. Also, comment below on which ones do you like?
