Alia bhatt movies

Karan Johar’s favorite star kid, the subject of social media trolls, and at the centre of the nepotism debate, Alia Bhatt has made her mark in Bollywood. But we don’t recognise her for her controversies or her relationship with playboy-no-more Ranbir Kapoor. Instead, we like her for her work. And despite what the haters on the internet have to say about Alia Bhatt, sane people will acknowledge that this young lady is full of unbridled passion and spot-on script choices. Just like everyone else, she too has had her share of failures ( looking at you Shandaar ) while other roles have landed her big awards. The latest member to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Alia Bhatt is now both an artist and a brand. Here’s to her 6 year long career so far, and the roles she has played on the big screen!

Lead Roles

* Student Of The Year (2012)

At this juncture we knew KJo was bringing Mahesh Bhatt’s daughter to the industry. Playing Shanaya, the girl at the centre of the love triangle between Rohan (Varun Dhawan) and Abhimanyu (Sidharth Malhotra) while they compete to win a title is all sorts of fun and fantasy. Alia Bhatt apparently worked hard to shred some inches to get casted for the role. However, we can’t say SOTY is our favorite Alia Bhatt movie.

* Highway (2014)

With this movie, she made a name for herself. In this Imtiaz Ali project, Alia is a young-to-be bride abducted by a local gangster played by Randeep Hooda. The story revolves around her search for a new meaning to life while making subtly touching upon Stockholm syndrome and sexual harassment. Highway is one of the very few Bollywood movies that broached the subject of mental illness and got it right.

* 2 States (2014)

2 States is one of the bollywood movies based on books, a Chetan Bhagat novel of the same name, to be specific. The movie proved a commercial success for both Alia Bhatt and Arjun Kapoor with audiences loving the pair and their chemistry. Addressing the marriage union between two different cultures or states, the movie touches upon problems the two face in their journey.

* Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania (2014)

With the movie being her third in the year, Alia was becoming a renowned name in Bollywood and the rest of India. A small town Ambala girl shopping for her oh-so-perfect wedding lehenga comes to Delhi where she falls in love with the fun-loving Delhiite Humpty Sharma played by Varun Dhawan.

* Shaandaar (2015)

Ah, the dread. While audiences were mesmerised by the amount of beauty on screen ( hello Alia Bhatt in a bikini and Shahid “chocolate” Kapoor ) Shandaar turned out to be a massive flop at the Box Office. The film is set in the backdrop of a wedding between two business-minded families trying to save their empire unknown to each other where the wedding planner runs off with the bride’s sister.

* Kapoor & Sons (2016)

A beautiful story of family drama starring an ailing grandfather (Rishi Kapoor) and two brothers coming back home to meet him. The fun begins when past secrets are dug and a girl(Alia Bhatt) causes a rift between the two (played by Sidharth Malhotra and Fawad Khan).

* Udta Punjab (2016)

Adding feathers to her cap, this is one of our favorite Alia Bhatt movies. Revolving around the drug crisis in Punjab, the story follows a rockstar (Shahid Kapoor), a migrant labourer (Alia Bhatt), a doctor (Kareena Kapoor), and a police officer (Diljeet Dosanjh).

* Dear Zindagi (2016)

This Alia Bhatt and Shahrukh Khan starrer is a feel-good movie. A plot that walks on untraveled grounds for Bollywood: importance of mental health. Kaira suffers from insomnia for which she seeks treatment from Dr Jehangir Khan, an unconventional psychologist.

* Badrinath Ki Dulhania (2017)

Continuing the fun ride of Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, the movie follows Vaidehi, a girl with dreams and Badri, a sweet, rich, but not-so-educated guy who wants to marry her after seeing her once at a wedding.

* Raazi (2018)

After Alia Bhatt won the Filmfare Best Actress for Raazi, everyone knew of her exemplary acting performance. Raazi is our favorite Alia Bhatt movie. The movie is based on the true story of a young Indian girl who becomes a spy and marries into a Pakistani military family for intelligence. Vicky Kaushal also shines in the film.

* Gully Boy (2019)

From the dialogues to the songs, everything related to this movie won an award which turned into quite a controversy. The movie follows Muraad, a young poor boy with dreams of becoming a rapper. His life changes when he meets a local star rapper; MC Sher. Alia Bhatt plays a typical Dharavi girl with swag and toxicity in this movie.

* Kalank (2019)

After establishing herself as the most versatile actress, Alia Bhatt was pure grace in this multi-starrer. Set in the pre-independence era, the story explores the lives of six people, filled with love, betrayal, compromise, and passion. With the big-budget affair, the costumes, music, and choreography all give lavish feels. However, we cannot say the same about the story.

* Sadak 2 (2020)

The talk of the town because of the nepotism debate is Sadak 2. This Alia Bhatt movie has the highest Trailer dislikes on Youtube and is the sequel to Sadak 1991. The story picks off from its prequel where a young girl becomes the reason for the male lead to survive. It was released on the OTT platform Hotstar.

  1. Sangharsh (1999)
  2. Ugly(2014)
  3. Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016)
