What Can We Expect to See in Christopher Nolan’s Tenet?

Tenet is among the most awaited movies of 2020, despite the pandemic Christopher Nolan is adamant to release the movie in theatres. The time-bending flick’s release date has already changed a few time before the green light. Tenet will be released in countries like Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Denmark, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, France, Hungary, Iceland, Indonesia, Italy, Korea, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Portugal, Serbia, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom on August 26th.

Tenet will be Christopher Nolan’s 9th movie and as always everyone is very “shushh” regarding the plot and elements of the movie. Even Tenet’s stars Robert Pattinson and John David Washington were kept in a room alone to read the script. Therefore, Nolan and Warner Brothers have a full proof plan to seal the script.

While the trailer of Tenet seems a bit dramatic, we do expect the movie to be a lot more dramatic. Tenet is Christopher Nolan’s meditations on time (like the Marcus Aurelius one), and we all know from previous Nolan movies like Inception, Dark Knight, Inception that Nolan likes to be well aware of the topic before even writing the logline of the script. At this exact moment we know that the Tenet is a spy thriller, it involves some time bends, and something like time going backwards.

Looking at Nolan’s Filmography, I came to a conclusion.  Christopher Nolan creates some rules in his stories for the characters to follow, and then the character struggles to deal with that imaginary problem with an imaginary solution. So, while writing, Nolan poses questions for the world he is creating for the characters. Therefore, TRB’s guess is that Nolan will create some wild rules and let his characters suffer through them.

What kind of rules?

Let us start with the things we know for sure.

  • Tenet is a spy thriller.
  • Time will run backwards.
  • An airplane will crash!!!

While all of these things are selling points of the movie, the thing that will intrigue a lot of people will be the time running backwards. Christopher Nolan, being the brilliant director will make rules like, “Time cannot go forward once it turns backwards”. This means it will then follow the backward path and will go till the very existence; it will go even before the existence of time or anything unless being stopped. This is one theory.

In the Tenet trailer, the man welcomes John David Washington’s character to the afterlife. As such, yet another theory could be that Washington’s character was a spy killed in action. Now to make things right he will have to go back in time to undo his mistakes, but there is a rule he must follow. He cannot jump to a moment, as time is linear, so he will have to go through every moment to reach that point of time. Therefore overcoming every challenge backwards.

Well, here are some of our theories that we think would be cool for Nolan to play with. But one thing we definitely know is that Tenet will be the best thing to come out in this dark time and maybe cheer us up a little.
