Emmy Nominations are in, and as always there are a lot of artists and their work which got snubbed this year. But this year no one is sure what the rest of 2020 behold, probably something better, and amidst this pandemic, it’s a bit weird to discuss Emmy nominations and our predictions. Anyways, we are in such desperate times, that anything is good that doesn’t involve some tragedy. While we don’t actually know how the 2020 Emmy Awards will be held, will it be on a zoom call or there will be a closed set awards ceremony. While the later options seem stupid, we know this for sure that some of the best performances of last year will be left unawarded. So here we have compiled a list of Nominations and our prediction of the winners.

Best Comedy Series

Emmy Nominations

  • Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
  • Dead to me
  • Curb your enthusiasm
  • The good place
  • Insecure
  • The Kominsky Method
  • Schitt’s Creek
  • What we do in the shadows

TRB Pick: Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

Season 3 may have lost a bit of touch when compared to previous seasons. But still, Rachael Brosnahan and other actor performances with brilliant direction make Marvelous Mrs. Maisel our top pick.

Best Comedy Actress

Emmy Nominations

  • Catherine O Hara -“Schitt’s Creek”
  • Christina Applegate – “Dead to me”
  • Rachel Brosnahan – “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
  • Issa Rae – “Insecure”
  • Linda Cardellini – “Dead to me”
  • Tracee Ellish Ross – “Blackish”

TRB Pick: Catherine O Hara

Schitt’s Creek was brilliant this year, and what made it so special are the performances of Lead actors. And O Hara literally nailed it in this one.

Best Comedy Actor.

Emmy Nominations

  • Eugene Levy – “Schitt’s Creek”
  • Anthony Anderson – “Blackish”
  • Don Cheadle – “Black Monday”
  • Ted Danson – “The Good Place”
  • Michael Douglas – “The Kominsky Method”
  • Ramy Youssef – “Ramy”

TRB Pick: Eugene Levy

If it were in our hands we would’ve given Levy his share of Emmys long ago, but now seems a perfect time to honor the actor. Simply because of his comedic timing and dry humor we think that Levy will be the one to take home the award.

Best Comedy Directing

Emmy Nominations

  • Schitt’s Creek
  • The Marvelous Mrs Maisel
  • Ramy
  • The great
  • Will & Grace

TRB Pick: The Marvelous Mrs Maisel

The direction of this series is actually spectacular. It reflects the whole theme of the series, like you wouldn’t expect that joke in here, but then a character opens his mouth and there it is! The same thing is with the direction, simple cuts between scenes come out of nowhere and leave you just simply amazed

Best Comedy Writing

Emmy Nominations

  • Schitt’s Creek.
  • The Good Place.
  • What we do in the shadows
  • The Great.

TRB Pick: What We Do in the Shadows

With Taika Waititi behind the series, there’s no Puzzle as to think if the series is actually good or not. Since Waititi has recently won the academy award for best-adapted screenplay, we think that this year he will also take home an Emmy for best writing.

Best Drama Series

Emmy Nominations

  • Succession.
  • The Crown.
  • Ozark.
  • Better Call Saul.
  • The Handmaid’s Tale.
  • Killing Eve.
  • The Mandolorian.
  • Stranger Things.

TRB Pick: Succession

Succession season 2 was so much better than season 1, and we simply weren’t ready for it. The class razor-sharp dialogue, unending rivalry, and the Roy family are the reasons why we think Succession will take home the award.

Best Drama Actress

Emmy Nominations

  • Laura Linney – “Ozark”
  • Jennifer Aniston – “The morning show”.
  • Jodie Comer – “Killing Eve”
  • Sandra Oh – “Killing Eve”
  • Zendaya – “Euphoria”
  • Olivia Coleman – “The Crown”

TRB Pick: Olivia Coleman

This will not be the first time when Queen Elizabeth will take home the honor, the character is a complete joy to watch, while it’s not an easy shoe to fill, Olivia Coleman superbly mended herself to deliver a spectacular new season of The Crown.

Best Drama Actor

Emmy Nominations

  • Brian Cox – “Succession”
  • Jeremy Strong – “Succession”
  • Jason Bateman – “Ozark”
  • Billy Porter – “Pose”
  • Sterling K Brown – “This is US”
  • Steve Carell – “The Morning Show”

TRB Pick: Brian Cox

We thought that Brian Cox would win an Emmy for season 1, but then Season 2 came and he really upped his game in terms of Badassness, performance and of course, bullying his children in the series

Best Drama Supporting Actress

  • Julia Garner – “Ozark”
  • Fiona Shaw – “Killing Eve”
  • Helena Bohnam Carter – “The Crown”
  • Meryl Streep – “Big Little Lies”
  • Laura Dern – “Big Little Lies”
  • Sarah Snook – “Succession”
  • Samira Wiley – “The Handmaid’s Tale”
  • Thandie Newton – “Westworld”

TRB Pick: Helena Bohnam Carter

The reason why The Crown is so good is that it’s backed up by incredible actors that deliver incredible performances, and we just cannot overlook the brilliant performance by Helena Bonham Carter in Crown.

Best Drama Supporting Actor

Emmy nominations

  • Billy Crudup – “The Morning Show”
  • Bradley Whitford – “The Handmaid’s Tale”
  • Matthew Macfadyen – “Succession”
  • Giancarlo Esposito – “Better Call Saul”
  • Nicholas Braun, “Succession”
  • Jeffrey Wright – “Westworld”
  • Kieran Culkin – “Succession”
  • Mark Duplass –  “The Morning Show”

TRB Pick: Kieran Culkin

Well, Succession is really famous for its razor sharp dialogue and bullshitting skills, but the most prime character who has developed this skill is Roman Roy, and Kieran Culkin has really outdid himself. He was born to play this role of Roman.

Best Drama Directing

Emmy Nominations

  • Succession.
  • Ozark
  • The Morning Show.
  • The Crown.

TRB Pick: Ozark

Ozark has been dark from the beginning, but this season was truly amazing in terms of acting, pacing, and most importantly directing. The slow burn literally demands the audience to hold tight and just relax until something unexpected happens.

Best Drama Writing

Emmy Nominations

  • Succession
  • Better Call Saul.
  • The Crown.
  • Ozark.

TRB Pick: Succession

Succession is the best ongoing Drama series, there we have said it. The backbone of the series is its writing. Sharp dialogues, sarcasm and bullshittery, those are the three playgrounds where everyone plays their games. Succession is actually just that, and because half of the time everyone bullshit each other, it becomes really important when any character speaks his mind, hence creating a tense moment.

Best Limited Series

Emmy Nominations

  • Watchmen
  • Mrs. America.
  • Unbelievable.
  • Little Fires Everywhere.
  • Unorthodox.

TRB Pick: Watchmen

Watchmen was everything we expected it to be. There was that superhero element, comic book references, and most importantly a good ending. While we were actually confused the entire time until the very last episode.

Best TV Movie

Emmy Nominations

  • El Camino
  • Bad Education
  • American Son
  • Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
  • Dolly Parton’s Heartstring: These Old Bones.

TRB Pick: El Camino

The sequel of Breaking Bad may not have been at the level of its predecessor, but it was still a great movie. Being a Vince Gilligan project El Camino gave a proper sendoff to fan favourite Jesse Pinkman.

Best Limited Series Directing

Emmy Nominations

  • Watchmen
  • Little Fires Everywhere
  • Normal People.
  • Unorthodox.

TRB Pick: Watchmen

The reason why we choose Watchmen for best writing is because of the way different timelines, character arcs and a lot of historically accurate time frames were set up. Talk about background research!

Best Limited Series Writing

Emmy Nominations

  • Mrs. America
  • Unbelievable
  • Unorthodox
  • Watchmen
  • Normal People.

TRB Pick: Unbelievable

Unbelievable was actually unbelievable, everything was almost perfect in the series, but the acting and writing were actually perfect. It is actually really hard to give justice to such a delicate topic, and the writers really gave everything they had into the making of this gem

Well, this is the list of 2020 Emmy Nominations and our predictions of the winner this year. The votes from the panel were live from 20 August for 10 days. So it will soon be announced when the award ceremony will air on live.

Till then you can watch these amazing series, we recommend you to start with Succession, and work your way through to the best Drama series of all time.
